The end of the Champions League “league phase” will be decisive for the transfer saga between Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi and Roma.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908.
The transfer links between Frattesi and Roma have been rumbling on for a couple weeks now.
At the start of the January window, the bombshell dropped that Frattesi wants to leave Inter.
The 25-year-old has made up his mind that he is not receiving enough playing time.
Frattesi wants to join a club where he’ll feature more prominently. He sees Roma as that club. And the Giallorossi, for their part, are very keen to take advantage of the opportunity.
For their part, Inter are not particularly keen to sell Frattesi.
And if the Nerazzurri were to listen to offers, their demand as far as a fee go is reportedly a steep €40-50 million.
That will certainly make negotiations tough for Roma.
But there are also non-financial concerns.
Inter are currently dealing with an injury crisis in midfield. Both Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have missed a couple matches.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri are not exactly in a hurry to sell a midfielder, further reducing the midfield depth.
In the Champions League, Inter have two more matches to go. Clashes with Sparta Prague and Monaco will decide whether or not they qualify directly for the round of sixteen.
And even if Inter were to sign a replacement for Frattesi, they could not register that player in the UEFA squad list until the knockouts start.
Therefore, Inter certainly will not sell Frattesi before their final Champions League “league” fixture. That is against Monaco on the 29th of this month.
Once that match passes, however, there could be the go-ahead for a sale of Frattesi to Roma.
