Inter Milan failed to sign out-of-favour PSG winger Marco Asensio in January due to Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa both remaining at the club.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908.
Over the last few days, it has emerged that Inter had targeted Marco Asensio during the January transfer window.
The former Real Madrid winger left Paris Saint-Germain. He joined Aston Villa on loan in the end.
Asensio had fallen down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.
Therefore, a January departure always looked likely for the Spaniard.
And the Corriere report that Inter therefore sensed a transfer opportunity. They viewed Asensio as a player who could give some versatility to their attack.
Inter were working behind the scenes to agree a loan deal for Marco Asensio.
But in the meantime, there would have been a key condition for that transfer to happen.

Inter currently have five senior forwards in their squad. The likes of Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa remain among the backup options.
Inter would have been open to letting either Arnautovic or Correa leave last month.
Both of the pair are out of contract at the end of the season. Therefore, they will be leaving in the summer one way or another.
However, if either or both had left in January, the door could have been opened for Asensio to join.
However, the Corriere notes, both Arnautovic and Correa rejected the idea of leaving. Therefore, Asensio didn’t come in. Instead, the 29-year-old joined Aston Villa on loan.
