Speaking at a press conference attended by Get French Football News, Olympique de Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Les Olympiens will spend a second week training in Rome ahead of their trip to fellow UEFA Champions League contenders Lille next weekend. “Yes. We’re going back to Rome on Tuesday. The important thing is to prepare for a match like a final against one of the best teams in Ligue 1 in a heated stadium (in Lille),” said De Zerbi following OM’s 4-1 win over Brest on Sunday evening.“We’re going there to win, we’re not thinking about calculations. We want to win. We’re going back to Rome to try to prepare for this goal in Lille. We’ll think about Le Havre and Rennes afterwards. I’d like to add that when I’m in Rome, I’ll take a few hours to visit the Pope’s tomb.”The Italian did however rally against press coverage of his unprecedented decision to take his side away from Marseille whilst confirming he’ll do so again this week. “You’ve been talking about nothing else all week. He goes home, eats spaghetti… I’ve always done things differently. When someone has ideas, you have to follow them, regardless of what others think. We went to Rome because we couldn’t find anywhere in Cannes, Saint-Tropez or Montpellier. So we could concentrate.”Over the last ten years, OM has only qualified for the Champions League three times, I think. I’m trying to stay focused. Yesterday (Saturday), it was Brest, Brest, Brest, Brest, Brest. And now it’s Lille, Lille, Lille, Lille. There’s no secret, no punishment. It wasn’t about imposing something on the players.GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from Stade Vélodrome, Marseille.
