Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was hardly in the mood when interrogated on the notorious Marcus Rashford affair.

For the fourth match in a row, the Portuguese tactician has decided to omit the England international from his matchday squad. And while the striker’s absence was shocking at first, it has now become the norm at the club.

On the first occasion, Amorim emerged unscathed as the Red Devils stormed from behind to complete a sensational comeback victory over their rivals Man City. After the contest, the head coach revealed that it was his selection, implying the player hasn’t been impressive on the training ground, and few could have argued against it at the time.

Nevertheless, Man United have gone awry since then, losing their next three contests against Spurs, Bournemouth and lastly Wolves.

Thus, some might argue that Rashford’s presence could come in handy, even though the club’s troubles obviously run much deeper than that.

So following the Boxing Day defeat to Wolves, Amorim was asked if there could be a way back for the exiled star. Nevertheless, the manager was dismissive in his response, revealing he’s adamant on sticking to his stance as long the original reasons persists.

“It’s always the same reason it’s going to be,” said the Portuguese manager in his post-match interview via BBC Sport.

“We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing. Losing, I have to be stronger. I will continue with my idea until the end.”

The reporter insisted on diving deep into the issue, asking if Rashford has been showing improvements on the training ground. This sparked a rather cheeky comment from Amorim who implied that the situation remains the same.

“If he’s not here, you can make your mind up.” said the 39-year-old with a wry smile.

Therefore, Rashford will apparently remain out of the squad for quite some time, and with the January transfer session opening in the next few days, one has to wonder if United fans have already seen the last of the striker.
