Ruben Amorim on Dalot and Hojlund after Real Sociedad draw: ‘The important thing is to move on and not be fighting’

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund need to move on after coming to blows in the first half.
Dalot had refused to cross the ball to the onrushing Hojlund during the first half of United’s 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad, leading to the Danish forward to go ballistic at his teammate as a result.
When asked to clarify why Dalot chose to not cross to his club mate, Amorim was adamant it was a poor decision, and called for his players to not fight with each other in situations like this:
“That is clear,” said Amorim. “We’re creating chances, but sometimes you don’t see it in the expected goals, because we manage not to shoot. But the great opportunities are there and you can see it. We have transitions, we have situations and sometimes we’re missing something.
“That can change something, especially in these kinds of games, when we need goals that can make a difference. I’m just imagining Diogo didn’t know for sure that Rasmus had the advantage and he felt that he had a lot of time to think of the play.
“It was a clear position, Rasmus did really well, Dalot did really well, but the decision was not the best. The important thing is to move on and not be fighting.”
Amorim also looked towards the positives after a match where United largely dominated, only to fade away after the penalty for Bruno Fernandes’ handball. United return to Old Trafford with the tie firmly in the balance.
“It could be better but it could be worse, because in the last 20 minutes I thought the team were really tired.
“Until the penalty, I felt the team was in control of the game. After the goal we were so near to getting a second goal with the transitions, but the penalty changed things.”
