Sheffield Wednesday have been ‘given a deadline’ to agree a deal with Southampton for Sheffield United target Shea Charles, according to journalist Joe Crann.
Charles has been hugely impressive during his loan at Hillsborough, but he is expected to be recalled by Southampton.
Saints could loan the midfielder out once again, with a host of clubs keen, including Wednesday’s local rivals Sheffield United, but will want improved terms.
The player is ready to stay at Sheffield Wednesday, but the clock is ticking for the Owls to make Southampton an acceptable offer.
Danny Rohl’s side have been ‘given a deadline’ by which they must agree terms with Saints for a fresh Charles loan.
The Premier League strugglers want an improved loan fee from the Owls, along with wage contribution terms, in order to sign off.
Even then Wednesday could have to hold off other clubs, including Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United, but in their favour is that Charles wants to stay.
Charles played 45 minutes of Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City in the Championship on Wednesday night.
