One player who has consistently been named as a potential Manchester City target is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Ruairidh Barlow has previously reported for Football Espana that Rodrygo is considering his future at Real Madrid. Furthermore, Barlow reports that Manchester City have an interest in signing the Brazilian international.

Based on events that transpired today, the opportunity to sign the Real Madrid winger may be there for Manchester City. But should they seize that chance? The Brazilian winger could be an upgrade on what City have out wide. That does give merit to the idea of Manchester City moving for the Real Madrid winger.

Rodrygo was an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s 4-3 loss to Barcelona.

Real Madrid went down to a 4-3 defeat to Barcelona today. The defeat leaves their La Liga hopes in tatters. But interestingly, Rodrygo was an unused substitute. With Carlo Ancelotti’s side down 4-2 at halftime, and needing goals to win the game, the Brazilian sat on the bench. Instead, Endrick and Brahim Diaz came on for Real Madrid. Rodrygo’s absence was a surprise. Perhaps it’s an indication that his future lies away from the Bernabeu.

Manchester City could do with a quality winger.

Looking at Manchester City’s current attacking options, they have quality, although some of their players are raw prospects. Jeremy Doku and Savinho fall into this category. Omar Marmoush looks set to be a key player in Pep Guardiola’s side. He’s impressed this season. Erling Haaland is Erling Haaland. That says it all, really. Oscar Bobb has lost this season due to persistent injury issues. So perhaps Manchester City could benefit from signing Rodrygo this summer.

The Brazilian international would be an upgrade on Jeremy Doku or Savinho. He is more of a goal threat than both players. He is perhaps more proven on the big stage than both. His pace and dribbling would be a strong addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Rodrygo’s ability to score an important goal could also be a welcome addition to the Manchester City squad. A front three of Erling Haaland, Omar Marmoush and Rodrygo would be a nightmare for City’s opponents to contend with. So, looking at it, there is a case for City to move for the Real Madrid winger.

Perhaps Rodrygo’s future lies away from Real Madrid. It seems that he may be on the outer at the club. Perhaps Manchester City will move for him this summer. That may see Pep Guardiola shift away from the 4-2-2-2 formation he has used lately. But it does seem that Rodrygo could leave the Bernabeu this summer. So the noise that surrounds a potential City move for him may become louder in the coming weeks.
