Manchester City’s Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has been named the 2024/25 Premier League 2 Player of the Season.

The award caps an incredible campaign for the 19-year-old who helped City top the PL2 table before securing our place in the play-off final.

City recorded an impressive seven clean sheets in the league phase, with Simpson-Pusey a part of six of them.

The Blues also conceded just 23 times en route to that success in 20 fixtures, with only Brighton (22) able to better that tally.

Whether it’s putting in a vital tackle, initiating an attack with a clinical diagonal ball, winning aerial duels or leading the team as the captain, Simpson-Pusey’s development this season has been nothing short of remarkable.

His hard work in games and in countless training sessions also saw him earn his senior debut earlier this season in our Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

A week later, Simpson-Pusey was afforded his first senior start, debuting in the Champions League in our league phase trip to Sporting CP and, to date, he has gone on to make six first team appearances across all competitions.

In winning the award, the young defender saw off competition from City team-mate Emilio Lawrence, as well as Khayon Edwards (Arsenal), Finlay Herrick (West Ham), Donnell McNeilly (Chelsea), Hindolo Mustapha (Crystal Palace), Lewis Orford (West Ham) and Callum Osmand (Fulham).

Simpson-Pusey becomes the fourth City recipient of the prestigious PL2 Player of the Season award, following in the footsteps of Liam Delap (2020/21), James McAtee (2021/22) and Carlos Borges (2022/23).

For his part, Simpson-Pusey said he was both proud and honoured to have been named the 2024/25 PL2 Player of the Season.

“To receive this award in such a competitive league with lots of amazing talent is a huge honour for me,” said Simpson-Pusey.

“I feel like this has been my best season representing City and I’m really glad it’s helped the team win the PL2 league and reach the play-off final, which we are excited to be competing in.

“This squad is a great team to be a part of as we all push each other to be the best we can be every day, and I think we’ve seen that with the new records we’ve hit this season, even more so following a difficult season last year.

“But this also wouldn’t have been possible without those around me, so I’d also like to say thank you to Ben [Wilkinson], Craig [Mudd] all the coaching staff and my team-mates too.”
