Sky Sports won’t be happy – Premier League summer transfer window will now close earlier | OneFootball

Sky Sports chiefs will be gutted, as it has been revealed that the Premier League summer transfer window will close earlier than originally planned.

The Athletic have reported that all clubs in England have been informed of the change.

Sky Sports love the ‘excitement’ of transfer deadline day but this summer, the transfer window will now close at 7pm and NOT 11pm as usual.

As well as Premier League clubs, this will also apply to those in the English Football League.

The Athletic report – 13 May 2025:

‘One of their reasons for doing so was to provide staff working across football clubs on deadline day a more normal working pattern.

Conversations have also taken place with European leagues to ensure there is unity, and the expectation is they will be implementing similar changes.

Clubs normally have a two-hour grace period to complete deals after the window closes, although the relevant paperwork will need to be submitted to the FA by 7pm.

A decision is yet to be made on the time the winter transfer window, which will open on January 1 and close on February 2, will close.’

Due to this summer’s contrived and  absolutely waste of time FIFA Club World Cup, it was confirmed earlier this year that that there will be not just one 2025 Premier League summer transfer window, instead there will be two.

The first, specifically for Premier League sides, is an extra 10 day window between June 1 to June 10 after FIFA, world football’s governing body, granted permission for an exceptional interim transfer window. This window will close at 7pm on 10 June 2025.

The second/main summer transfer window will open on 16 June 2025, six days after the first window closes, and will remain open until 7pm on 1 September 2025.

Actually, Sky Sports can hardly complain, as whilst they are losing four hours on deadline day from their interminable coverage and speculation, they are getting a bonus Premier League transfer window AND deadline day this summer.
