Slot on Salah contract: ‘Mo is outstanding – I hope he stays at Liverpool’ | OneFootball

Arne Slot says he hopes Mo Salah will extend his contract and spend “many more seasons” at Liverpool amid his “outstanding” form in the Premier League.

The Egyptian winger scored his 25th top-flight goal of the campaign with his strike against Manchester City on Sunday, while he also registered his 16th assist in the 2-0 win.

The 32-year-old, who is on 51 goal involvements in all competitions in 2024/25, is yet to sign a new deal with his current contract set to expire this summer.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle United, Liverpool boss Slot was asked whether Salah‘s form is making negotiations more difficult.

“You can look at that in both ways because the better he does the more expensive he may become but if he was doing bad, we would be having second thoughts about extending his contract,” the Dutchman said.

“I think for everyone it is the best that he brings in the performances he is now.

“Maybe for the one that has to pay him it isn’t the best but for everyone else it is the best because if you want to play at this club you need to be at his level otherwise you are almost useless to play at this club.

“We only need players that are at the top of their game because this is one of the best if not the best club in the world to play for. He needs to have these performances to play here and hopefully to extend here.”

He added: “Mo has had some outstanding seasons and I hope we see him here for many more. He of course needs to extend his contract first.”
