Slot says Liverpool need ‘elite mentality’ for back-to-back titles

Arne Slot has said he will see if Liverpool have the ‘elite mentality’ required for back-to-back titles when his team returns for pre-season.
Liverpool were crowned champions of the Premier League this season after a brilliant first campaign with Slot at the helm. The Reds wrapped up the title with four games to spare, just the club’s second league title of the Premier League era.
Ahead of the trophy presentation this weekend, Slot outlined what his squad needs to defend their crown next season.
“I don’t know yet if we will have that serial mentality to show up season after season. We will see on 8 July when we come back together,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Crystal Palace.
“Many have won the league but not many have won multiple seasons in a row.
“Not everyone has that elite mentality. Look at Mohamed Salah, who has been at that type of elite mentality for seven years in a row. He was the fittest when we arrived at pre-season. You need that to become a serial winner.”
Slot also discussed the news that former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be in attendance at Anfield on Sunday. He said the German will be a welcome guest at the title celebrations.
“I have heard that, which is nice,” Slot said on Klopp.
“It is the hardest trophy to win as cup trophies you can win by lucky draws or be lucky in a few games – like winning a penalty shootout.
“It is harder to win the league and this is the period when the league is at its toughest. You saw 16th and 17th place playing in a European final for the first time (Tottenham against Manchester United on Thursday).”
