Southampton have set a transfer valuation of around £7.5m for their in-demand winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. Are the Saints not aiming high enough?
The more that time progresses, the more Southampton fans are beginning to accept relegation at the end of this season. With relegation being hard enough as it is, we must also brace for what comes alongside relegation.
Not that any fan needs reminding of this considering it would be Southampton's second time out of three in the Championship. However, there are bound to be a big number of significant player departures if this is Southampton's fate.
Indeed, there might be a few players who decide to jump ship right now. One of those players, surprisingly, is Kamaldeen Sulemana.
According to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, it would take an offer of around £7.5m (€8m to €9m) to convince Southampton to part ways with Kamaldeen Sulemana this month. Also, the Saints would require a large sell-on clause, to cover them in case Sulemana increases in value.
It would be a shame to see Sulemana leave. He is one of those players to benefit from Ivan Juric coming in as the new manager. He was out of favour under Russell Martin but has been given a fresh chance to prove himself under the new Croatian boss.
Recently, Kamaldeen Sulemana proved his worth to Southampton fans even more in the FA Cup tie against Swansea. In this match, Sulemana scored a goal and provided an assist to Tyler Dibling, allowing the Saints to progress in the competition.
In the French reports, Sulemana is understandably linked with a move back to France. The Ghana international originally impressed in Ligue 1, even boasting Europa League experience with Rennes.
However, it is a different club to Rennes which is sniffing around Sulemana currently. Foot Mercato believe that RC Lens will try their luck with signing the winger.
As far as Southampton are concerned, their price is now set. If they are to entertain a sale of Sulemana back to Ligue 1, then they must receive around £7.5m in compensation and the inclusion of a high sell-on clause.
In my opinion, this would be a good business from Southampton. As much as Sulemana has earned his way back into the starting lineup, he is one of those players that will leave at the end of the season anyway. Not to be pessimistic, but that sell-on clause would be impossible to sniff at.
