Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Son Heung-Min will once again miss out for Spurs in Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
The South Korean has been missing for Spurs since the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Postecoglou revealed the 32-year-old has been suffering with a foot injury, which has worsened in recent weeks.
Ahead of the game against Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou explained: “He’s been dealing with this foot problem for a while and now is probably as good a time as any to give him that time to get over it.
“It’s one of those things where rest is going to be as important as anything else, with that kind of injury, so we’ll give him that time because Sonny is the kind of guy who always wants to train so we’ll put him on ice for the next few days and see how he responds to that.”
The Spurs manager did provide some good news in his latest update though, saying that the winger’s condition is improving and he is now back in training.
“In terms of rehab there’s only one,” Postecoglou said. “Sonny is going through that process. He’s improving but not ready for Sunday.”
The Spurs boss added, “It was his first time on the grass today and he said it felt better.”
Tottenham sit 16th in the table and have very little to play for going into this Sunday’s match against Liverpool. The opposite is true for the Reds, who can win the league with just a draw at Anfield.
The Australian also says that everyone that played in the 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest will be fit for Sunday’s game.
He said: “Squad wise there are pretty much no changes from the other day. All the guys got through it okay.”
Looking ahead to the fixture against Liverpool, Postecoglou suggested that he might make changes in view of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt.
“With the program we have coming up, Thursday is a big night for us,” he said.
“It’ll be a matter of playing a few that need the game time and the others that we feel may need less exposure we’ll have a look at that.”
