On Sunday evening, there was Belgian Pro League action for Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, and their KVC Westerlo side, as they played fellow strugglers KV Kortijk.
As usual, both Vuskovic and Devine were named in the starting XI by manager Timmy Simons — though the latter was played in a deeper role in the double pivot, rather than in the number ten as he has often played during this loan spell.
After 27 minutes, the hosts took the lead, which was enough to have their noses on front at half time. Eighteen minutes into the second half, Emin Bayram of Westerlo was sent off for a second yellow card, and it was looking like yet another miserable result.
However, just four minutes later, Westerlo managed to find an equaliser. Then, with seven minutes of normal time remaining, the hosts received a red card of their own. From being a goal and a man down, they were now level on both of those counts.
Then, after 89 minutes, Westerlo managed to find what looked at one point to be an extremely unlikely winner. They were able to see out six minutes of stoppage time, to secure an absolutely huge 2-1 win on the road.
This three points were their first since the 24th November. Team secure big win on the road for their first league win of 2025, sounds very familiar, don’t you think?
As for the Spurs loanees themselves, it was another good performance from Vuskovic. During the 90 minutes of the game, the teenager recorded; six clearances, one tackle, 74 touches, 4/7 accurate long balls, 5/7 aerial duels won, one foul drawn, and one shot on target. He has now also played over 2000 minutes in the Belgian Pro League.
Meanwhile, it was one of Devine’s quieter games this season, not making much of an imapct from a deep midfield role. Nevertheless, another 86 minutes for him, with the 20-year old now having played over 1500 minutes in the league, the most he has played in any of his three loan spells so far.
This important win has not taken Westerlo out of the relegation round spots, but it does give them some breathing space. Had they lost this game, they would have only been one point ahead of their hosts. They have 26 points from their 24 games so far.
