As it currently stands, this group of Terriers players will be departing the club come the end of June

Huddersfield Town are in for a busy summer, with nine current players set to be out of contract at the culmination of the season.

The Terriers offloaded centre-back Michal Helik and striker Kieran Phillips in the January window, both of whom were out of contract at the end of the current campaign, but they are set to lose a big chunk of their squad if the Town hierarchy do not offer new contracts or cannot agree terms.

Plenty of the current players on Huddersfield's books whose contracts run out later this year are veteran names, so it will be interesting to see whether Michael Duff opts to keep them around, or goes for a more youthful approach next season - let's take a look at who these players are.

Josh Koroma

The only player under the age of 30 whose contract expires this summer at the John Smith's Stadium is winger Josh Koroma.

Barring a brief loan spell at Portsmouth at the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Koroma has been one of the mainstays of the Huddersfield squad for the past six seasons, making over 150 appearances for the club.

He signed a two-year extension in July 2023, and many Huddersfield fans will surely be hoping he can continue his run at the club past the 2024/25 season, although for much of the campaign he has played somewhat out of position as a left wing-back.

Tom Lees

Tom Lees has enjoyed a storied career in the EFL, making 485 Championship appearances for Yorkshire trio Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and then Huddersfield Town, but 2024-25 is his first season in League One after 13 straight seasons in the second tier of English football.

Despite turning 34 in November, Lees has contributed massively in his first season in League One, as Huddersfield find themselves hopeful in their attempts to return to the second tier at the first time of asking.

Perhaps a one-year extension could be on the cards for Lees, and a crack at becoming only the third player to play 500 games in the second tier, if Huddersfield were to obtain promotion this season.

Jonathan Hogg

Current Huddersfield captain Jonathan Hogg is in his 12th season at the John Smith's Stadium and is the only current player remaining from the Terriers' couple of seasons in the Premier League.

This season, his productivity has lessened and he has had more stints out of the starting 11 under Michael Duff's management, which could signal a potential exit for the Huddersfield legend.

Plenty of Huddersfield fans would love to see Hogg retire at the club, so it'll be interesting to see where his next steps lie if he were to leave at the end of the current season.

Matty Pearson

The second centre-back on this list, and one that Huddersfield will be keen to keep, is Matty Pearson.

Pearson took a while to get into the side at the start of this season, with his only League One appearance in the first seven games of the season being a 39-minute bench cameo against Shrewsbury Town.

The rest of the season so far has proven why Huddersfield brought him in from Luton Town. They activated a one-year extension at the end of last season, and Huddersfield will be hopeful they can keep him on at the end of this one, given the threat he provides in both boxes.

Danny Ward

Since signing a two-year contract extension in June 2023, Ward has been limited to impact bench roles at the club.

The veteran striker turned 34 in December, and it is clear that he most likely won't be reaching the heights of his 2021/22 season, where his 14 goals helped Huddersfield to the Championship play-off final.

If he were to sign an extension at the end of this season, it'd most likely be to continue his role as one of the main rotational veterans within the squad, but given the fact he's out for the remainder of the campaign with a knee injury, it would be a surprise if Ward gets a new deal.

Ollie Turton

Turton has impressed since making the move to Huddersfield from Blackpool, but has struggled with injuries at his time at the John Smith's Stadium.

An ACL and Meniscus injury saw him miss 14 months of action between February 2023 and April 2024 and, despite returning to full fitness this season, perhaps this could be in the mind of Michael Duff when it comes to offering a new deal.

The BBC reported when Turton signed his last contract extension in 2022 that the club do have the option to extend until 2026, so perhaps that could be the avenue Huddersfield take with the 32-year-old come the summer.

Josh Ruffles

A player that is more than likely to move on in the summer is left-sided defender Josh Ruffels.

A groin injury kept Ruffles out of the majority of last season, and his appearances so far this campaign have been sparse.

Although, when it comes to Ruffles, a new contract is never out of the question, as the 31-year-old signed a new two-year deal in the summer of 2023, despite being on the club's released list at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Chris Maxwell

Chris Maxwell was brought in as a backup to Lee Nicholls, and has since fallen to third-choice due to the emergence of Jacob Chapman this season.

If the right offer can be made, then there could be a chance that 34-year-old Maxwell stays, but goalkeepers in a squad role aren't exactly hard to come by, so it's very likely that Huddersfield may bring someone else in to fill that role for 2025-26.

Scott High

Scott High is currently in the midst of his third loan spell at National League side Halifax Town this season.

The 23-year-old has lined out 50 times for his parent club but has played for three separate sides since his last Huddersfield game in an EFL Cup tie against Middlesbrough in August 2023.

Perhaps a free transfer to a side in League Two could be on the cards for High next season, or maybe even a permanent move to Halifax, but it's highly unlikely that he will be remaining a Terrier.
