After Hibs looked to have brought forward the Celtic title party by winning 2-0 at Ibrox and in doing so inflicting a fifth successive home defeat on theRangers for the first time in their history dating all the way back to August 2012, Celtic knew that they were within two victories of securing the title and that it could be won at Celtic Park this coming Saturday against Kilmarnock if they could pick up the three points in Perth.

McDiarmid Park was far from being an intimidating away venue, with St Johnstone restricting their own support to their main stand (and failing to sell that out) while Celtic supporters made the journey from all over the country and beyond to fill three stands.

Here’s just some of the immediate reaction from the Celtic support which will be tough reading for the Celtic staff managing the account…

“Pathetic and embarrassing performance”…”Abysmal”…”Disgusting”…

“Last 6 games: 3 W, 3 L. We’ve sacked managers with similar records! Obviously we’re not sacking Rodgers but the last two months has been atrocious and nowhere near Celtic’s standards! Team selection is poor – Kühn is a wasted jersey and Maeda is wasted up front and Idah on the bench!…”

“I understand the empty seats now. Players on holiday. Khun already thinking of playing for Brentford. If they don’t care, why should fans show up?”

“Another below par performance today, continuing the recent trend. Plenty of goal scoring opportunities but unable to convert them. Disappointing, to use a well known phrase.”

“What does the manager and players do in training all week?”

“Rodgers has my permission to leave a year early. Back to exactly what happened before U shaped boring football with no ideas. Ange might be available this summer too.”

“What does the manager and players do in training all week? Set pieces? Formations? We only ever play one way, and if we played in a competitive league, we would win very little. BR came back here for a jolly. He can put his feet up and enjoy his expensive contract.”

“A wee aside…now we have not had any midweek matches we are worse and can two or three players practice free kicks so we might have a wee bit of excitement that we may get a free kick on target (not even expecting a goal … just be nice to get one on target !!!)”

“Awful yet again. I would say it’s surprising but it isn’t these days”

“Awful yet again. I would say it’s surprising but it isn’t these days. Seems that every time theRangers slip up we fail to stretch the gap. Fair play to St Johnstone though – they wanted the points more than us, simple as that.”

“Not good enough, several need dropped to try reignite that fire in the belly! Plenty time to win the league, but that is not the point…get it wrapped up.”

“Kuhn, Hatate, Johnston, Taylor, Vickers in the summer Soul searching and rebuilds Lucky theRangers have been a shambles.”

“These players have been phoning it in for months now”

“These players have been phoning it in for months now even though they know the league’s been wrapped up by Xmas, they should still be turning up like the fans do. No intensity in the play and it’s boring to watch.”

“But CCV & Trusty got a thousand touches each – is that not the game plan?”

“Been like watching Ronny Deila’s Celtic these last few weeks.”

“That’s as bad a performance I’ve seen in a long time. They need to get a grip. Do they think the league is over with so they’ll sit back now? If that’s the case then they don’t deserve to ever wear a Celtic shirt ever again!”

“Team needs overhauled, too many passengers.”

“Lacked urgency, energy and overall embarrassing.”

“Team needs overhauled, too many passengers.”

“Sick to death watching this slow, sideways and backwards play. Our so called elite manager is just a one trick pony.”

“Early goal again from terrible schoolboy defending.the goalkeeper too losing that at the near post is another terrible mistake. Trying to walk the ball into the net and very poor finishing. We looked like a team going through the motions.”

“I agree with our manager some players too comfortable”

“Shocking, no words. I agree with our manager some players too comfortable clearly we didn’t buy enough players so in summer we need clear out and lot more in so bad today unacceptable to lose this game have say well done to St Johnstone they deserve it today.”

“Abysmal, serious lack of effort from highly paid players. Attitude was disgusting. St Johnstone ran us off the park.”

“BR2 is off. His body language tells you everything.  And the players know it. Who’s next?”

“We’ve only won 3 out of our last 8 away games. Does the team need refreshed? Quite a few off form. Without Maeda we’d struggle.”

That’s the knee-jerk reaction shortly after the full-time whistle so the anger will obviously subside and we go again on Saturday. However what the above does show is that these players are now on thin ice with the support who could turn on them if this continues much longer. It is not on.
