However, there are question marks about who will be partnering him at the base of the midfield.

Casemiro – Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has played merely ten minutes of football in the last five Premier League games.

At 33, the midfielder no longer possesses the stamina to play with the high intensity demanded at this level.

He still has the vision to open defences but lacks the pace to thrive in midfield.

Amorim started Eriksen and Casemiro against Newcastle United and it took only 19 minutes for the Magpies to race into a 2-0 lead.

Starting two players who are past their peak against an energetic Spurs’ midfield could spell disaster for United.

Casemiro – Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has played in the central midfield role in the last few games with Amorim using Mainoo as a left-sided number 10.

Starting Casemiro and Fernandes seems to be the most obvious choice.

Fernandes, naturally an attacking force, would be more involved in the final third, leaving Casemiro with a greater defensive responsibility.

We don’t believe the former Real Madrid star has what it takes to cover every blade of grass at the age of 32.

Casemiro – Moorhouse

This is the most intriguing option on the table.

Jack Moorhouse could make his senior debut for United tomorrow.

The 19-year-old is renowned for his exceptional ball-carrying ability, which could add a dynamic edge to United’s midfield.

Moorhouse could be the perfect complement to Casemiro, giving Fernandes the freedom to play behind the striker in Diallo’s absence.

He is rated very highly at the academy but it will be a bold call from Amorim to hand him his full debut against a quality side.
