Tonight Celtic has the chance to silence arrogant German media

As Celtic prepare to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League knockout playoff, the arrogant German media has wasted no time in writing off Brendan Rodgers’ side…

The Bundesliga’s official website recently published an article listing “five reasons why Bayern Munich will progress against Celtic,” making it clear that many in Germany expect the Bavarians to cruise past the Scottish champions.

However, this lack of respect for Celtic is nothing new. The Hoops were dismissed earlier in the competition, particularly when they shocked RB Leipzig in November. On that occasion, Nicolas Kühn – the match-winner – was branded a “no-name” player by sections of the German press. That narrative backfired spectacularly, and now, with Celtic once again being overlooked, they will be eager to prove the doubters wrong.

Why German Media sees a Bayern Munich victory

The Bundesliga’s official website argues that Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites to progress, citing their dominant form, Harry Kane’s prolific goal-scoring record, and the club’s historic pedigree in European competition.

They suggest the German giants will impose themselves on Celtic, referencing past struggles against elite opposition as further evidence of an uphill battle for the Scottish champions.

It’s no surprise that Harry Kane is at the heart of their confidence. The England captain has been on fire this season, scoring 28 goals in 28 matches across all competitions, while also contributing 10 assists. There is no denying his threat, and Celtic’s defence will need to be at their best to keep him quiet.

Celtic’s Key Players Can Turn the Tide

While the German media focuses on Bayern’s strengths, Celtic have attacking threats of their own. Manuel Neuer has already singled out Nicolas Kühn as a danger man for the Hoops, and the winger has delivered impressive numbers, with 17 goals and 12 assists in 34 matches this season. Meanwhile, Daizen Maeda – who won his appeal against suspension – has been one of Celtic’s most dynamic attackers, scoring 21 goals in 34 appearances.

Adam Idah, who has found form at the perfect time. His brace against Aston Villa showcased his ability to rise to the occasion, and his 12 goals this season suggest he could be a valuable weapon against Bayern.

A Familiar Underdog Story for Celtic

Celtic are no strangers to being underestimated in European competition. Time and time again, they have been counted out by pundits and opposition fans, yet they have defied expectations. The club’s home record in Europe, backed by the intimidating atmosphere at Parkhead, is a factor that cannot be ignored.

Brendan Rodgers has shown he can prepare his team to go toe-to-toe with elite opposition, and Celtic’s presence in the playoff round is well-earned. While Bayern Munich remain heavy favourites, the Hoops will be motivated by the German media’s dismissal of their chances.

With the crowd behind them and a squad full of believers, Celtic have an opportunity to challenge the narrative and show why football isn’t played on paper.
