England right-back set to agree lucrative Bernabeu switch as attentions now turn to Anfield futures of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk
Real Madrid are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer.
Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at Anfield at the end of this season and has not agreed terms on an extension.
The England star, as a result, would be able to leave for free in the summer and, according to multiple reports, Real Madrid are now closing in on signing him.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants over the past 18 months.
Alexander-Arnold is one of three marquee Liverpool players that are set to be out of contract in the summer.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the same boat and both are yet to sign new deals on Merseyside.
Salah, who is the Premier League’s top scorer this season, has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool captain Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been touted as a reported target for French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Alexander-Arnold was linked with a move to Real Madrid during the January transfer window, when Liverpool could have demanded a fee for him.
The Reds, however, showed no interest in doing so and manager Arne Slot said at the time that Alexander-Arnold was committed to the club.
“I think everybody saw how great a first half of the season he had, how much he is here, how much he wants to win here,” said Slot.
“I see him on the training ground, working every day. He is fully committed to us and he will play on Sunday.
“If it would destabilise players at Liverpool if other people talk about them, then we would really have a problem.
“If you play at one of the biggest clubs in the world, everybody always talks about you, sometimes in relation to other clubs. That happens so many times for our players.
“There were some talks about our players also in the last six months and I don’t think that destabilised them at all.”
