Liverpool boss Arne Slot says this Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth will come too soon for injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The right-back missed the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg win over Tottenham after limping off with a leg injury in the victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Slot confirmed that while his recovery is progressing well, he is not expected to be available for the trip to Plymouth.
“Trent? It’s too early for him. Difficult to say for Everton, it won’t take months or even weeks, but it is only three days after Plymouth, so let’s wait and see.
“We look long-term, we take no risks, but if he is fit, then we will use him.”
Liverpool secured their place in the Carabao Cup final after sweeping aside an injury-hit Tottenham side 4-1 across two legs, setting up a showdown with Newcastle United at Wembley.
As the holders of the competition, the Reds will be aiming to retain the trophy, but head coach Arne Slot remains cautious about the challenges ahead in their pursuit of more silverware.
“I wasn’t here last season, so I can only tell you that we are in a good place,” Slot said.
“The players are fit and ready, but we also know how long the season still is and the difficult challenges we still have.”
With one final already booked, Liverpool now turn their focus to the Emirates FA Cup, where they face a fourth-round clash against Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
The Reds will travel to Home Park this weekend to take on a Plymouth side currently struggling at the bottom of the EFL Championship. Argyle recently parted ways with Wayne Rooney following a poor run of results but earned their first win under new boss Miron Muslic last weekend, beating West Brom 2-1.
They also caused an upset in the previous round by knocking out Premier League side Bournemouth.
With a crucial Merseyside derby against Everton on the horizon, Slot says he will use this fixture as an opportunity to rotate his squad.
