Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the weekend’s action.
The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.
I was curious to see just how many Troy Deeney would pick from the match at St James’ Park.
On this occasion I obviously wasn’t expecting to count how many Newcastle United players…
Instead, I was wondering how many from Bournemouth and which ones.
As it happens, Troy Deeney picked out only two of the away side from Newcastle 1 Bournemouth 4.
Troy Deeney explains why he has picked out Milos Kerkez and Justin Kluivert for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth):
“I struggle to see how Bournemouth are going to be able to keep hold of him. He is scoring goals for fun and has an unbelievable engine on him. He defends well, gets forward excellently. A really, really good player.”
Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth):
“He scored a hat-trick of penalties earlier on in the season, but his three goals at Newcastle were all unbelievable finishes. The precision and technique to just pass it into the goal was excellent.”
I think to only pick two Bournemouth players was laughable from Troy Deeney but then as usual, his disrespect is all too obvious. He does it with Newcastle United players all the time, especially Alexander Isak. Rather than just doing what he is paid to do, you know, just the actual proper analysis and justification for his selections, instead Deeney’s first comment is to say that Bournemouth won’t be able to keep Milos Kerkez!
However, that disrespect is nothing compared to what I find really really outrageous from this past weekend of matches and what Troy Deeney has had to say.
This is who the BBC Sport pundit has picked out as the best performing Premier League manager of the weekend
Enzo Maresca (Chelsea):
“The Wolves game was massive for Maresca. It was getting towards squeaky bum time for him – there has been a lot of pressure building in recent weeks. He called Chalobah back from Crystal Palace and started him, which was a big call, and it paid off. They had to win and they got the job done.”
I bet the Bournemouth fans are absolutely fuming about this one and rightly so.
What Troy Deeney says about Maresca and Chelsea is true, after failing to win any of their last six Premier League games, Monday night’s 3-1 home win over Wolves was much needed.
However, it is beyond belief that Maresca is chosen ahead of Andoni Iraola, I am so outraged on behalf of him and the Bournemouth fans. Newcastle United were fourth top and had won nine matches in a row and Bournemouth come to St James’ Park, win 4-1 and make it 11 matches unbeaten, yet their manager doesn’t get recognised for that. Instead, Maresca with his £1billion+ squad gets manager of the week when winning at home against fourth bottom Wolves!
