Inter Milan superstar Hakan Calhanoglu will skip Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Young Boys due to injury.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the Turkey international underwent further checks after suffering an adductor problem against Roma.

Test results came back showing elongation in the adductors of his left thigh, rendering him unavailable for tomorrow’s game.

Calhanoglu had to leave the Stadio Olimpico after only 12 minutes, surrendering his place to Davide Frattesi.

Unfortunately for Inter, the 30-year-old’s thigh issue could pin him to the treatment room for at least a week.

It would, in turn, rule him out of Sunday’s Derby d’Italia against Juventus at Giuseppe Meazza.

Given Calhanoglu’s significance to Simone Inzaghi’s tactical set-up, this is a significant blow for the reigning Scudetto holders.

Inter’s hopes of having their talismanic playmaker back for Juventus’ visit look far-fetched.

Moreover, he will likely miss out on the away match against Empoli on October 30.

His return for a home clash against newly promoted Venezia on November 3 is the best-case scenario.

In Calhanoglu’s absence, Inzaghi will likely turn to Piotr Zielinski to fill the void.

Despite dealing with a minor fitness problem himself, the Polish ace is ready to return to the starting XI.

Kristjan Asllani would’ve been a natural choice, considering he deputized for the ex-AC Milan midfielder last term.

However, the Albanian has yet to regain match fitness after injuring himself during the international break.

With Calhanoglu and Asllani out, it’s time for Zielinski and Frattesi to step up to the plate.

The latter has been Nicolo Barella’s understudy, but his prolific form in front of goal makes him an invaluable asset.

As for Zielinski, he has yet to start a game in Serie A.

But he has been in Inzaghi’s starting line-up in both Champions League fixtures this season.
