Real Madrid have on Friday evening been targeted in no uncertain terms by city rivals Atlético.
This of course comes fresh off a day which saw Los Blancos steal the headlines once more.
On the eve of their Copa del Rey finale showdown with Barcelona, Real Madrid released a pair of statements, addressing the RFEF, and referee’s association.
As much came after the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu were left incensed by the comments laid out by referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea and his team of officials in their pre-match press conference.
So serious did the situation become, that at one point it was widely reported that Real Madrid were considering not showing up for Saturday’s Clásico.
In the end, Florentino Pérez and co. backed down, confirming their intention to fulfill the club’s Copa commitments.
But the entire saga has put something of a dampener on a fixture expected to attract millions of viewers from across the globe.
And as alluded to above, amongst those left with a sour taste in their mouths on Friday are those in a position of power at Atlético Madrid.
In a post across the club’s official social media platforms a short time ago, Atléti wrote:
‘This is unbearable. Stop tarnishing the image of Spanish football.’
