‘Very good game’: Arne Slot praises ‘very good’ United star who won 11 duels vs Liverpool | OneFootball

Manchester United shared the spoils against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils went into the game as massive underdogs and it was predicted that they would suffer a big defeat after the lacklustre performance against Newcastle United.

However, they turned up with a much better showing at Anfield and were unlucky not to win the game in stoppage time. Harry Maguire squandered a clear-cut chance with seconds left.

There were many stand-out performers for the Red Devils. Bruno Fernandes was superb as the captain and a catalyst behind the club’s impressive attacking display on the road.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold had a tough time at right-back dealing with the runs of Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

When asked about it, manager Arne Slot said that Fernandes is a very, very good player, and he played a very good game.

He told Sky Sports (via Metro): “Yeah, I think they did and that’s also to do with Bruno Fernandes who is a very, very good player.

“He played a very good game today as well, and they’ve shown many times, United, that when things are really difficult, they can show up. The FA Cup final against Manchester City.”

Fernandes had a forgettable outing against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. He was sent off shortly after the break.

The Portuguese returned after a one-game ban yesterday and showed his class with offensive and defensive contributions.

The 30-year-old completed 100 per cent of his take-ons (3/3) with 11 ground and aerial duels won.

The playmaker created four key chances for his teammates, one of which led to Lisandro Martinez’s opening goal.

Fernandes also delivered three accurate crosses and worked hard without the ball with eight recoveries and a couple of clearances.

It was a brilliant all-round showing from the captain. The onus is now on maintaining the same consistency going forward.

Fernandes has 17 goal involvements for the season. His form will be key to turning United’s fortunes around in the coming weeks.
