Veteran Real Madrid pair will be available for Club World Cup | OneFootball

Two veteran members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid will be eligible to feature in this summer’s Club World Cup.

That’s according to Relevo, who point towards Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez as the players in question.

The long-term futures of midfielder Modrić and full-back Vázquez are of course considered as being entirely up in the air at present.

As much comes with neither player having yet been offered an extension to their expiring terms for the 2025/26 campaign.

With this in mind, confusion had spread regarding the status of the pair to feature in the fast-approaching FIFA Club World Cup, set to be kicked into gear in mid-June.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, though, then both Vázquez and Modrić will be available for selection.

As per a report from Relevo:

‘This decision was made a year ago, precisely when the club offered them a renewal for the 2024/25 season. At that time, the Club World Cup was already included in the calendar, so both players signed knowing that they were tying their futures to the club at least until after the tournament.’
