Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano offers the latest updates on Manchester United and their summer plans which won’t include Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils had a quiet January transfer session, with only Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven arriving. Although these two youngsters are proving to be solid additions, many rued the lack of reinforcement in other departments, including the attack and midfield.

Nevertheless, most sources expect INEOS to embark on a busy summer transfer and provide Ruben Amorim with a squad that is more suitable to interpret in his 3-4-2-1 formation.

But until then, the Portuguese manager will have to do with the players currently at his disposal… that is unless the club resorts to a sensational plan that has been thrown in the media as of late. Of course, we’re talking about signing Paul Pogba for a third stint.

The Frenchman has been banned since September 2023 when his tests showed an elevated level of testosterone. However, his 18-month ban has now expired, making him eligible to play once more.

But as Romano explains, United have absolutely no desire to bring the former Juventus star back to Carrington, despite being available as a free agent.

“We have many stories in recent weeks on Pogba going back to Man Utd. Guys, my information as of today, is that there’s nothing,” said the transfer market guru on his official YouTube channel.

“I’m not aware about any negotiations between Pogba and Man Utd and I’m not aware of anything concrete.”

Pogba last played for the Red Devils in 2022, before ending a somewhat underwhelming six-year spell to rejoin Juventus on a free transfer. However, his second spell in Turin was utterly disastrous. He spent almost the entire first season on the treatment table, before getting banned at the start of the following campaign.

As for Man Utd, Romano added that INEOS intends to focus on signing young players rather than pursuing stars that are already over the hill.

“Man Utd are going in a different direction. They are going in the direction of talented players, young players, like Dorgu and Heaven, so these are the investments wanted by United.”
