On Wednesday evening, Bayern Munich brushed past the challenge of TSG Hoffenheim with a comfortable 5-0 victory at the Allianz Arena.
While many eyes would have been on the 19-year-old Tom Bischof, who, as previously reported, is set to sign for Der Rekordmeister on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, paid close attention to Leroy Sané commenting (via Florian Plettenberg):
“How he presented himself is exactly how we need Leroy to be. He has great quality.”
The former Schalke 04 winger is also set to see his contract expire at the end of June, and speculation regarding his future over the past twelve months has been rife.
Despite garnering attention from multiple Premier League clubs, the record champions have been attempting to tie Sané down to another deal in Bavaria.
However, this would mean that the 29-year-old would have to take a significant pay cut, seeing an extension weighed heavily towards performance-based bonuses.
Therefore, Sané’s future at Bayern is still up in the air, and a sale in January is still not off the cards, but speaking after Der Rekordmeister’s victory over Die Kraichgauer, Eberl stated:
“We never said he doesn’t. He has incredibly high quality, and he knows that himself. If he performs like he did against Hoffenheim, then he’s definitely a player who is an option for Bayern Munich.”
Over the past week, it has been well-documented that Bayern are looking to sign Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku.
It is understood that the Premier League outfit would like to lure Mathys Tel away from Bavaria and include Nkunku in the deal.
Nevertheless, the record champions are reluctant to let Tel go and would prefer to sign Nkunku outright, having already agreed to personal terms with the forward.
Therefore, should Nkunku arrive in Bavaria, then Sané could see himself forced out of the club, either to free up wages for the Frenchman or to generate a transfer fee if he was to depart this winter.
As well as this, Nkunku could potentially take over the role of Sané in Kompany’s starting XI, but as to where the 29-year-old would go is still currently unclear.
