West Ham United are among a number of Premier League clubs keen on Celtic’s teenage sensation Daniel Cummings.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers are eager to sign the 18-year-old, who has been in scintillating form for Celtic’s youth team, netting 24 goals in 24 games this season.
The London Stadium outfit is currently without key forwards Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio, and Jarrod Bowen due to injuries, leaving Graham Potter short of attacking options.
The January transfer window presents a chance for West Ham to bolster their ranks as they push for a strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign.
Cummings’ current deal with Celtic runs out at the end of the season, and the Scottish powerhouse are struggling to tie him to a new contract.
Brendan Rodgers isn’t in a hurry to integrate him into the first team, so the youngster is assessing his options this month.
West Ham are facing competition from a host of Premier League clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion, Ipswich Town, Brentford, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Fulham.
Championship clubs Sunderland and Burnley are also monitoring the situation.
While Celtic are keen to retain their rising star, the opportunity to join a Premier League club could prove too tempting to resist.
West Ham desperately need a prolific striker to come in and shoulder the goalscoring burden, and Cummings is obviously not ready for such responsibility.
However, he’s a talent that the Hammers simply cannot afford to miss out on.
Cummings has been excellent for Celtic, showing skills that highlight his fantastic ability to deal with complex attacking situations.
He adapts his shooting abilities depending on the situation and often anticipates the defenders’ movements to create time and space for himself.
Cummings can be very creative with his finishing, and his unpredictability also makes him a deadly striker.
At just 18, Cummings has no ceiling and is already showing he has the tools to become a prolific marksman in the near future.
West Ham need to get to him first, although Celtic are due to receive between £230,000 and £330,000 in training compensation if they lose their rising star.
