The final whistle blew at the Etihad, completing a stellar weekend for Newcastle United fans.

United had gone behind to an early Forest goal despite dominating the first half.

As chances weren’t converted and fine margins going against them, Newcastle United then connected it all together, scoring four goals between the 23rd and 34th minutes.

A nervy second half and two goals conceded, though United finally seeing it out 4-3 against Forest.

Attention the switched to the Etihad, Man City v Liverpool.

Salah and Szoboszlai putting the scousers two up at the break and cruising to the win.

A pretty near perfect weekend has now reached its conclusion.

This was the Premier League table before this weekend’s Premier League matches – Thursday 20 February 2025:

This weekend’s Premier League match results:

Friday 21 February

Leicester 0 Brentford 4

Saturday 22 February

Everton 2 Man U 2

Bournemouth 0 Wolves 1

Arsenal 0 West Ham 1

Fulham 0 Palace 2

Ipswich 1 Spurs 4

Southampton 0 Brighton 4

Villa 2 Chelsea 1

Sunday 23 February

Newcastle 4 Forest 3

Man City 0 Liverpool 2

As you may have noticed…

Of the clubs that filled the top eight places before this round of Premier League matches, two have won and six have lost.

Runaway leaders Liverpool, who now lead the table by 11 points and are surely lifting the title in the near future.

The only other one of the top eight to win?

Newcastle United!!!

Newcastle now up to fifth (which all but for certain would guarantee Champions League) and only behind Man City on goal difference, whilst three points off Forest in third.

Maybe with such a huge lead and the title effectively won, Liverpool will also perhaps take it easy on Wednesday night, play their reserves and concentrate on PSG in the Champions League the following midweek…

Maybe also worth noting, that once Wednesday night is out of the way, Newcastle United will also have played nine of ten matches against those other sides who are currently top six. The eleven remaining matches seeing NUFC only having to play Arsenal away out of the current half dozen, whilst six of the other ten games are against clubs currently bottom eight.
