Jack Clarke has been unable to make a significant impact at Ipswich Town since his summer switch from Sunderland last year.

This led to FLW’s Sunderland fan pundit Jordan Austwicke claiming that the winger will come to regret his decision to depart the club.

The 24-year-old has yet to register his first goal in the Premier League for Kieran McKenna’s side, with their relegation back to the Championship already confirmed.

"I think he probably will [regret leaving Sunderland for Ipswich]," Jordan told FLW.

"But surely from an outside perspective, you'd see what you're getting yourself into.

“He'll have got Premier League wages but across a full season, barring the four games left, he hasn't scored a Premier League goal and it hasn't clicked for him, he hasn't stood out.

"He's had the odd good performance here and there but has generally been quite average.

“Obviously Sunderland have flourished this year for the most part, not towards the end of the season.

"But yeah he might regret it, especially if we swap leagues next year, because he went there for a Premier League career and they were only there for one year.”

Here we look at his Ipswich wages to see how much this potential regret has cost the Suffolk outfit, using estimated figures from Capology

It was reported by the BBC last August that Clarke signed for Ipswich in a deal worth £15 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons also part of the move.

The winger agreed a five-year deal running until 2029 as part of the switch from the Stadium of Light.

This deal included a wage packet worth £25,000 per week, making him one of the better paid permanent players at Portman Road.

The highest paid permanent player in McKenna’s side is currently Axel Tuanzebe, with the defender earning £40,000-a-week.

Other high earners include Arijanet Muric and Dara O’Shea, with the pair both receiving £35,000 each week.

Meanwhile, Ben Johnson, Sam Morsy and George Hirst are all also earning more than Clarke, with the former pair on £30,000 per week deal, and the latter on £27,500.

The average weekly salary at Ipswich is currently £23,059, with the Tractor Boys wisely maintaining a healthy spending level in the Premier League.

Clarke was Sunderland’s highest paid player in the 2023/24 campaign, his final one with the club.

The forward made 40 appearances in the Championship, scoring 15 times, as the Black Cats finished an underwhelming 16th in the table.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur player was on a deal worth £16,923 per week, slightly more than Dan Ballard’s £15,000-a-week salary.

Clarke proved he was worth it during his final year at Sunderland, becoming their top scorer in the Championship.

While their league finish was a disappointment after earning a play-off place in the previous season, his performances still net the Wearside outfit a sizable fee when selling to Ipswich.
