When Liverpool can win the Premier League title

The last week has seen Liverpool put one hand firmly on the Premier League title.

Significant victories over Manchester City and Newcastle United have coincided with Arsenal dropping points against West Ham United and Nottingham Forest as Liverpool established a healthy 13-point cushion at the summit.

It now looks a question of 'when' not 'if' the Reds are going to be crowned champions as the sand slips through the hourglass, with chasers Arsenal decimated by injuries and extremely low on confidence. Unsurprisingly, statistics provider Opta have now given Arne Slot's side a 98.8% chance of finishing top of the pile.

Here are the dates Liverpool supporters will be looking out for during the final weeks of the season.

The soonest Liverpool can win the Premier League

Hypothetically, Liverpool could have wrapped up the Premier League title by early April. The Reds would require Arsenal to lose their next four league games against Manchester United (A), Chelsea (H), Fulham (H) and Everton (A) - which seems extremely unlikely despite the Gunners' poor form - while also triumphing themselves in their next three versus Southampton (H), Everton (H) and Fulham (A).

In that eventuality, Liverpool could be guaranteed top spot with victory over Fulham on the weekend of 5-6 April.

When Liverpool will claim the Premier League if Arsenal keep winning

Liverpool have played a match more than Arsenal at present but the north London side will contest their game in hand on 16 March when they host Chelsea - the same day the Reds face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Should they triumph against the Blues and match Liverpool's results elsewhere, Slot's men would be forced to wait until the weekend of 3-4 May to claim the title away at Chelsea. If they won the league at Stamford Bridge, they would then host Arsenal in their next league match, with the Gunners potentially giving them a guard of honour at Anfield.

However, if Liverpool's 13-point lead is maintained and Arsenal don't close the gap, then they would win the title on the weekend of 26-27 April when they host the Gunners' north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Could Liverpool win the Premier League against Arsenal?

Liverpool could win the Premier League at home to Arsenal on the weekend of 10-11 May but it would take a special set of circumstances. Heading into that fixture - which is the third-last of the season for both clubs - the Gunners would have to have cut the gap behind Liverpool to between four and seven points.

When Liverpool will lift the Premier League trophy

Liverpool didn't have the opportunity to celebrate their previous Premier League title in front of a packed Anfield following the coronavirus pandemic, but they would be given that chance on this occasion.

No matter how Liverpool win the title, they will be awarded the trophy after their final league match of the season at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday 25 May.

How many points can Liverpool manage this season?

Man City boast the current record for most points accumulated in a single Premier League season when they managed 100 during the 2017/18 campaign. The Cityzens also accumulated 98 the following season.

Liverpool put up 99 points when they lifted their only Premier League title to date in 2019/20, while also producing the two highest totals for runners-up. Despite finishing second in 2018/19 and 2021/22, they earned 97 and 92 points respectively in those campaigns.

This season, Liverpool's maximum points total is 97 - two fewer than their previous title win - but they will have to win all ten of their remaining matches to secure that tally.

By contrast, Arsenal's highest total is just 87 points, meaning they would have to win all 11 of their remaining games and Liverpool surrender at least ten points from their outstanding league fixtures.
