We’ve only got two weeks left of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
The title race and relegation battles are done, with just the European spots to finalise. And we’re set for a dramatic finish, with a lot of teams still able to secure European football — it’s just a question of which competition they’ll qualify too.
Some teams in the European battle definitely have tougher final fixtures than their rivals. But who are these teams?
We’ve taken a look at all 20 teams in the 2024-25 Premier League and ranked them by the current position of their final two opponents, from easiest to hardest.
Ipswich Town have two games left of their current stay in the Premier League, set to return to the Championship. And they could feasibly end the season with two positive results. The Tractor Boys first face fellow Championship-bound side Leicester City, who are also one of the two teams below them in the table. Ipswich end the season to West Ham United, who still sit 15th despite climbing a few places recently.
Aston Villa‘s end to the season, as they chase Champions League football, is an interesting one. They face two of the Premier League’s so-called Big Six in Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, and the Europa League finalists. But Tottenham and Man Utd sit 17th and 16th respectively, with Villa playing the former before the Europa League final and the latter after.
As already mentioned, Leicester are one of the three teams destined for the Championship. And they play their final home game against Ipswich, who sit one place above them. The Foxes then end the season away to 10th-placed Bournemouth, with the Cherries still harbouring minor hopes of European qualification.
Brentford cap off this mini group of teams who have both of their final opponents in the bottom half of the table. But they do face teams slightly higher up, so it’s just a bit harder. The Bees host London rivals Fulham at the Gtech Community Stadium in their final home game of the season, before travelling to face Wolverhampton Wanderers to close the campaign.
West Ham will be grateful that the season is almost over. It hasn’t really gone well for the Hammers, under either Julen Lopetegui or Graham Potter. West Ham’s final home game of the season sees them take on top five-chasing Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium. The Hammers then end the campaign on the road at Ipswich.
In terms of team names, Chelsea may feel they have the toughest final run-in of the Champions League-chasing teams. But on league position, it’s slightly different. They play their final home game of the season against 16th-placed Man Utd, who may have an eye on the Europa League Final. And then the Blues do have to travel to Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season, perhaps with everything on the line.
Bournemouth may still harbour European hopes. And they have two very different opponents in their final two games. First up are Manchester City, who will enter the game as either FA Cup winners or runners-up. But they will also be chasing a top-five finish. Once that’s done, Bournemouth end the season at home to relegated Leicester.
Like Bournemouth, Arsenal have a massive gulf between their final two opponents. The toughest game is up first as the Gunners host Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium. The Magpies sit just one place below Mikel Arteta’s men. But Arsenal then and the season against the worst team in the league, travelk=ling to face basement club Southampton.
For Everton, see Arsenal — but flipped. The Toffees have their final-ever Premier League game at Goodison Park against relegated Southampton and then end the season away to Newcastle. It’s more difficult for Everton due to their position in the table, relative to Arsenal’s.
Man City have a busy end to the season, playing the FA Cup final before their last two league matches. Their final home game of the season is a midweek meeting against 10th-placed Bournemouth, before the Citizens travel to 11th-placed Fulham on the final weekend. It’s the joint-smallest gap between two opponents of any team for their final two matches. You’ll find out the other one in a bit…
Liverpool are already the Premier League champions and have literally been on the beach ahead of their final two games. The Reds’ guard-of-honour tour sees them travel to Brighton and Hove Albion before hosting Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. It could be worse, but it could also be a lot easier. Liverpool will be grateful the title is already safe and secure.
Wolves will be looking to end the season on a high having lifted themselves up the table. Their penultimate game of the campaign sees Wolves take on Crystal Palace, who sit two places above them but cannot be caught. Vitor Pereira’s side them face eighth-placed Brentford, in what will be a tough end to the campaign.
It’s an interesting end to the season for Nottingham Forest in their quest for Champions League football. The Tricky Trees start with their final away trip of the season, travelling down to the London Stadium to face 15th-placed West Ham. But then they host their top-five rivals Chelsea at the City Ground on the final day. European football is confirmed, but Forest will want to dine at the top table.
Brighton also have a strange end of the season when it comes to their opponents. The Seagulls’ final home game is against Liverpool, who are the best team in the country right now — and deserving of their title. Brighton then end the season against Tottenham, who obviously are no mugs. But they’re also 17th, making them one of the easiest games by league position.
Newcastle have the toughest final run-in of the Champions League-chasing sides. The Magpies travel to second-placed Arsenal in their penultimate game of the season, though they do have a good recent record against the Gunners. And then they host 13th-placed Everton at St James’ Park to close the campaign.
Southampton have the exact same final fixtures as Newcastle, just in reverse order. The relegated side first travel to Everton in the final Premier League game at Goodison Park, before taking on second-placed Arsenal. And, of course, it’s tougher for Southampton than Newcastle because Saints are rock bottom of the league.
Crystal Palace will be mainly focused on the FA Cup Final, ahead of their last two games of the season. But these are interesting matches to get to. Wolves cannot catch Crystal Palace but are only two places below. And then, of course, there’s the small matter of a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on the final day of the season.
Tottenham are the first of three teams with both opponents in the top half of the table. Ange Postecoglou’s men obviously have other fish to try, so they could end the season with a few more league defeats. First up it’s a trip to Villa Park to face Champions League-chasing Aston Villa. And then Brighton travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, also holding their own European hopes.
Fulham may have harbour some European hopes but they’re surely over now, not least because of how the Cottagers end the campaign. Fulham aren’t in great form right now, and face London rivals Brentford in their final away game of the season. The final home game for Fulham? Man City at Craven Cottage. It might be time for Fulham fans to pretend the season is already over.
Man Utd have the toughest final two fixtures of any Premier League side. Not only are both teams they face next to each other in the table, but they’re both chasing the Champions League. First it’s a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, before Man Utd host Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Let’s not forget Man Utd play the Europa League Final between these two games too.
