Liverpool are interested in Fulham's Antonee Robinson, with Wigan set to benefit from a sell-on clause if the left-back does move on.
Liverpool have made Antonee Robinson their top target as they try to bring in a left-back this summer, with Wigan Athletic in line to benefit from a sell-on clause if he departs for Anfield.
The USA international has emerged as one of the top players in his position in the Premier League following his outstanding displays for Fulham in recent years.
Robinson is a key player for Marco Silva’s side, and he will have a big role to play as they look to bring European football back to Craven Cottage.
However, his future beyond this season is unclear, with journalist Graeme Bailey stating that Robinson is now Liverpool’s preferred option as they look to strengthen at left-back in the summer.
He adds that whilst Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez are also under consideration, there is a feeling among those at the Merseyside outfit that Robinson would be able to fit in quickly and make an instant impact on the XI.
Arne Slot’s men may be on course to win the Premier League, but the usually reliable Andy Robertson hasn’t been at his best in parts of the current campaign, so an upgrade may be on the cards when the window opens.
Fulham are sure to put up a fight to retain their star man, and it has been claimed they value Robinson in the region of £40m.
Even though they don’t have a say in the matter, you can be sure that figures at Wigan will be keeping a close eye on whether Robinson does secure a move away in the summer.
That’s because they included a sell-on clause as part of the agreement that saw the defender leave for London in 2020.
It is thought that stands at 20% of any profit that Fulham make, but considering he cost the Cottagers around £2m, that could be a substantial sum. For example, if Robinson was sold for £40m, the Latics would be in line for around £7.6m as part of the agreement.
That would obviously be a huge boost for Wigan, who have endured a difficult season in the third tier.
Boss Shaun Maloney would surely hope that if money like that did arrive into the club, it would increase his budget ahead of next season, so it’s certainly something to monitor when the window opens.
