Arsenal have announced that Adam Birchall will take over as their under-18s head coach after Jack Wilshere left to take up a first-team role at Championship club Norwich City.

The Hale End academy graduate will start work with the Canaries on Thursday and join the backroom staff of manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, leaving the North London club after two years with their under-18s.

Wilshere has now taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to react to the news that Birchall will be taking his place at Arsenal, sending his best wishes to him.

The former Gunners academy player will now step up from his former position as under-18s assistant coach immediately, and his first game in charge will be against Norwich under-18s on Saturday.

Having coached at Arsenal since 2016 and also worked as the under-17s head coach, Birchall brings the needed experience to the table and will now look to hit the ground running and prove himself going forward.

Some of the youth players regularly trained with the first-team while Wilshere was in charge, and the new under-18s head coach will be keen to follow suit.

Arsenal have continually strengthen their academy ranks with the best youngsters in the land, and the onus will now be on Birchall to get them ready for the first-team.

Wilshere did a fine job with the under-18s and will now hope to get closer to his dreams of becoming a first-team manager in the not too distant future after joining Norwich.

He held talks to become the head coach of Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids last October but remained at Arsenal, and he could soon be the main man in the dugout of a top club going forward if all goes according to plan.
