Phil Parkinson's side are in need of some attacking reinforcements

Wrexham are interested in signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson following his departure from Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.

That's according to a report from The Daily Mail, who say the Robins are keen to add to their attacking options amid a recent injury crisis.

Phil Parkinson's side have been hit badly by injuries in attack in recent weeks, with Jack Marriott ruled out until next year and Steven Fletcher also facing a spell out of action with a knee problem.

With the transfer window closed until January, they cannot sign players from other clubs at this moment in time, although they can add to their squad via the free agent market.

Parkinson has admitted that Wrexham are looking into doing that, and it now seems as though one potential candidate to fill that role has emerged.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson linked with League One return

As per this latest update, the Red Dragons are showing an interest in Bodvarsson, as they look to add to their depth in the centre-forward position.

The striker is currently a free agent after leaving Wrexham's League One rivals Bolton Wanderers following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season.

Having joined the Trotters on a free transfer from Millwall in January 2022, the former Iceland international scored 25 goals in 94 games for the club.

The 32-year-old has also spent time in the English football league system with the likes of Wolves and Reading, and could now return to it with Wrexham.

Following their promotion from League Two last season - their second in as many years - it has been a good start to life in League One for the Wales-based club.

Parkinson's side currently sit second in the third-tier standings, four points behind leaders Birmingham City, having taken 24 points from 12 league games so far.

They are next in action on Saturday, when they make the trip to The Valley to take on Charlton Athletic.

Free agent striker could be a good signing for Wrexham

It does feel as though the addition of Bodvarsson to the squad could be a good one for Parkinson's side.

With Marriott and Fletcher both out for a period of time, they are shorter on centre-forward options than it seems they would want to be.

The 32-year-old can help fill that void, and he does have the physical presence to make a similar sort of impact to what you might expect from those two who are missing.

Indeed, Bodvarsson's experience at Championship and League One level could also be useful for Wrexham, as they look to win a third consecutive promotion this season.

Meanwhile, his returns in front of goal for Bolton, suggest he could make some helpful contributions in that respect as well.

Since the transfer window is closed, they are also lacking in alternative potential options for the time being, which could also make this a worthwhile move, even if just for a few months.
