Young forward secures first loan deal

After plenty of talk around a potential loan, it was confirmed late on Friday, the 31st January, that young Spurs forward Will Lanskhear has been sent out on his first loan - as he joins Championship play off hopefuls West Bromwich Albion, in a deal until the end of the season.

Will Lankshear to go out on loan for the very first time

In the summer, Spurs decided to keep the teenager around the first team, and he was given the opportunity to start away to Galatasaray in the Europa League. Having scored a goal and been sent off for two yellows, it was a mixed night for Lankshear - but he has barely made an appearance since that evening.

The writing was probably on the wall when Ange did not give him a single minute during the FA Cup tie at Tamworth - albeit he did get off the bench in the Europa League win over Hoffenheim last week.

Then, against Elfsborg on Thursday - Dane Scarlett came on, meaning he could not play for another club this season - which more or less confirmed that this time - he would be staying at the club, and Lankshear sent out on loan instead.

Safe to say that the loans this season have a mixed but overall positive. record. Alfie Devine is having a good time at Westerlo, Ashley Phillips doing fairly well at Stoke City. In League One, Josh Keeley and Jamie Donley are having absolutely superb loans at Leyton Orient, and George Abbott is doing really well in League Two. Bryan Gil's loan at Girona has been reasonably good so far. (Luka Vuskovic not included here as Spurs are technically not his parent club).

However, Matthew Craig found game time so hard to come by at Barnsley that he was recalled and sent on loan to Mansfield Town. Alejo Veliz has struggled on loan at RCD Espanyol, and the aforementioned Scarlett was relegated to third choice at Oxford. Overall generally pretty good though you would say.

It is hard to predict how this will go for Lankshear, but there are things to be positive about. You may have noticed how impressive Amad Diallo has been for Manchester United this season. Well, his first loan at Rangers was not impressive, and he struggled to even perform in the Scottish Premiership.

However, the next season, he went on loan to Sunderland - under the guidance of now West Brom manager Tony Mowbray - and absolutely took the Championship by storm. Mowbray has consistently said in the past that he likes to develop young players, and his track record speaks for itself. A very good manager, and a very good person. You would like to hope that Lankshear is in safe hands under his management.

There is a bit of an injury crisis up front for the Baggies at the moment. Spurs linked Josh Maja is currently injured, whilst Daryl Dike is only just returning from yet another long term injury. Other striker Devante Cole is yet to start a league game all season, coming off the bench 13 times.
