We know that Chelsea were looking at a left winger in January, with Matt Law among the well connected sources who linked us with Alejandro Garnacho and a number of other options.
In the end, our interest was shelved until the summer, and leaves the potential for other targets to impress our scouts. One of the new names we’ve seen popping up recently was Yeremay Hernandez from Deportivo La Coruna.
Fichajes in Spain claim that he has a €20m release clause and is wanted by a few major clubs around Europe. Still just 22, he’s having a great season in the Spanish second tier as Depor push for promotion. He’s got 9 goals and 3 assists for a mid-table team who were in the third tier not long ago, and has started playing in Spain’s youth teams.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Hernandez – there were links in January too. Nothing came of them, but it sounds like our scouts still have their eyes on him, as they do all of Europe’s top young talents.

Given he’s not considered as a top tier elite prospect (not yet, anyway), perhaps Hernandez would be a good candidate for a year on loan at Strasbourg. He would certainly want a season or two playing in a top flight somewhere before he tests himself in the Premier League.
If he really does have a €20m clause and is as talented as he seems to be, this could be a great chance for us to at the very least make a profit on him. We await the summer to see which other teams start making proposals for the Canary Islands kid who is making a name for himself now.
