€15m transfer which was confirmed weeks ago disappears off the radar

It’s now more than two weeks since multiple sources claimed that Chelsea had agreed a deal to sign 17 year old Corinthians left back Denner. But things have gone very quiet since then.
Ben Jacobs is always well connected at Chelsea, and he wrote that the Blues had “agreed a fee in principle” with the Brazilian club for around €15m. The youngster would arrive in a little over a year’s time when he turned 18.
Jacobs followed on from reports originally from Argentine journalist Uriel Iugt who said that the 17 year old would sign a 7 year contract to become the latest South American import to come to Stamford Bridge under the Clearlake-Boehly ownership.
A young full back who is still a regular for the Brazilians’ Under-20 side rather than the seniors, there’s no doubting his talent, but this is a very big risk to take on a totally unproven player. Still, after all that noise which made a deal sound done, it’s all gone very quiet. We’ve not heard anything, official or unofficial, since.
Denner in action for Corinthians
Not only have we not heard any confirmation from either club since, the news has in fact now rather been overtaken by the news that two other future deals have been agreed. Geovany Quenda will arrive next summer, at the same time that Denner was due to arrive, while Dario Essugo will move this summer, both from Sporting CP in Portugal.
Perhaps the fact that the actual moving date for Denner is so far off means we won’t get any confirmation for a while. The Brazilian Under 20 Championship has just started its new season, and it will be very interesting to see his progress and whether Chelsea have snagged a good one – if a deal ever happens at all.
