Upon the return to league action, a rather unbalanced Real Madrid side managed to avoid the Leganes threat and emerged victorious by a 3-2 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu on match day 29.
Unlike many times in the past, this time around most players returned from the international break injury-free. However, the congested football calendar meant that there was fatigue amongst some players.
However, one player who has given 100% day in and day out for the Merengues is Jude Bellingham, with the Englishman having immense work in every match he was a part of.
Bellingham capped off the international break by showing his class over the 162 minutes he played for England, including an assist, 6 key passes, and a passing accuracy of 92.52 (136/147) while playing as an attacking midfielder in one game, and as a pivot in the other.
The ever-important South American trio was on the bench due to less recovery time, and the onus was on Jude to make something happen, and he did not disappoint.
It was a game where he was involved in arguably every play on the attacking front. He also proved to be the perfect connector between the midfield and attack as well as midfield and defense.
His heat map doesn’t do justice to the way he played during the match. Not only did he score the equalizer just 90 seconds into the 2nd half, according to Sofascore statistics, he was involved in 5 defensive actions, which included 3 tackles and an interception and clearance each.
As far as duels were concerned, the 21-year-old won 2/2 aerially and a staggering 12/15 ground duels. An absolute menace and made life difficult for Leganes. He also completed 2 key passes, 5/5 successful dribbles, and had a couple of chances at goal too.
Even though the match against Leganes was not supposed to be this tough, Real Madrid managed to avoid an upset – which could have proven to be a costly loss in the context of the league title. But Jude Bellingham, as always, had other ideas in mind. We have witnessed him win games for Los Blancos time after time over the past season and a half – and today was no different.
With less than 20 games left in the season, it absolutely would not be a surprise if Jude Bellingham springs another similar – or even better – performance.
