FLW takes a look at three midfielders that Charlton Athletic could consider signing this month.
Charlton Athletic may well be in the market for a new midfielder before the end of the January transfer window.
Nathan Jones has named the same starting lineup for each of the Addicks' last six League One outings, with Conor Coventry, Greg Docherty and Luke Berry making up the trio in midfield.
Charlton have picked up 13 points from a possible 18 during that run, but Jones may be looking at his squad and feeling as though he is lacking options in the middle of the pitch.
Terry Taylor has signed for fellow League One side Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season, which has further reduced the number of midfielders that Jones has available to him.
Football Insider recently revealed that Allan Campbell, who is on loan at The Valley from Luton Town, is attracting interest from a number of clubs in Scotland this month, with Rangers reportedly well-placed to agree a deal to sign the Scotsman.
Campbell has only made one cameo appearance for Charlton since the turn of the year, but if he were to depart before the end of the transfer window, then that would leave Karoy Anderson, who scored the winner from the bench away at Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night, as the only senior midfielder in the squad alongside Coventry, Docherty and Berry.
With that in mind, let's take a look at three midfielders who Charlton could consider signing before the end of the January transfer window.
Portsmouth midfielder Owen Moxon is one player who the Addicks could try and sign to bolster their midfield options this month.
Any deal would be unlikely if Freddie Potts is recalled from his loan spell at Fratton Park by West Ham United, but if he is allowed to remain on the south coast, then Charlton could see if they can bring Moxon to SE7.
Moxon joined Pompey from Carlisle United at the end of the January transfer window last year, before helping John Mousinho's side win the League One title and earn promotion to the Championship during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
The 27-year-old has only made two starts in the second tier so far this season, so he could potentially be allowed to leave if Charlton made a move, especially considering that Portsmouth signed Isaac Hayden earlier this month.
Moxon has a physical presence that could endear him to Nathan Jones, he showed that he can provide a creative output during his time at Carlisle, and he gained promotion-winning experience last season, so he could be a good option for Charlton if he is available either on loan or permanently.
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner is another midfielder who Charlton could consider signing before the end of the transfer window.
The 24-year-old signed a new contract at Loftus Road in the summer, having made 24 appearances in the Championship last season, but he has featured just three times in the league for the Rs so far this time around.
West London Sport reported earlier this month that a number of clubs have enquired about taking Dixon-Bonner on loan, with QPR ready to let him leave temporarily in order to get regular first-team football.
The former Liverpool youngster, who made three first-team appearances for the Reds, has never played below Championship level, so he could be a shrewd signing for the Addicks if they joined the race to bring him in on loan.
A slightly more left-field option that Charlton could consider this month is Fulham midfielder Kristian Sekularac.
The Swiss youngster has impressed for Fulham U21 in Premier League 2 this season, having scored eight goals in 12 appearances from midfield in that competition, as per Transfermarkt.com.
Sekularac was linked with a loan move away from Craven Cottage in January last year, with a number of Scottish clubs, including Rangers, reportedly interested in signing the now 21-year-old, but a deal never materialised.
Charlton would benefit from signing an attacking midfielder to compete with Luke Berry this month, and while Nathan Jones is not usually fond of signing players on loan, Sekularac could prove to be a useful source of goals during the remainder of the campaign if the Addicks decided to try and acquire him.
