Here we have picked four Premier League players that Middlesbrough could sign this summer.

Michael Carrick will hope his Middlesbrough side is at full strength come the end of this transfer window.

Boro fell short of their expectations last season as they were unable to mount a serious play-off push after a slow start to the campaign.

Therefore, Carrick will be keen to make sure his side gets as much of their transfer business done as soon as possible as he bids to fly out of the blocks in 2024/25.

Middlesbrough have already made three new additions in this transfer window, with Luke Ayling joining the club on a permanent basis after his loan spell. He has since been joined by Delano Burgzorg and Aidan Morris.

The Boro boss will probably want to add more to his squad over the coming weeks and the Premier League market could be somewhere the club turns to as Carrick may look to use his connections to secure some permanent or loan deals.

With that said, here we have picked four Premier League players that Middlesbrough could sign…

Bashir Humphreys

Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys has spent the last 18 months on loan at SC Paderborn and Swansea City.

The 21-year-old played 24 times for the Swans in the second tier last time in an up-and-down spell. He is very much in the early parts of his development as a player and with Chelsea having lots of options in central defence, he could be set for another loan spell in the 2024/25 campaign.

Championship clubs will be on high alert if that is the case and Middlesbrough should be interested in a possible deal.

Boro already have the likes of Dael Fry, Matt Clarke, Darragh Lenihan, and Rav van den Berg on the book but Carrick may want to add to that area of the pitch as he eyes more cover and competition.

Humphreys is a player who is very comfortable on the ball and knows how to play out from the back, a style that suits Middlesbrough under Carrick so he may be a player that the Teessiders look to bring in before the end of the window.

Will Fish

Middlesbrough should also be keeping an eye on Manchester United defender Will Fish.

The centre-back came through the academy at Man United and may be a player that Carrick knows well from his time at the club.

The defender has enjoyed two successful loan spells with Hibs and after returning to Old Trafford, teams in the Championship are keeping an eye on his situation.

According to the Manchester Evening News, second tier clubs are interested in signing Fish from Manchester United on a permanent deal as well as on a temporary basis.

It doesn’t state which clubs are interested but Middlesbrough should and could be one, as, like Humphreys, he would over more cover at the back.

Fish has shown with Hibs that he is very comfortable playing out from the back, while he is also very dominant in the air and has been known to chip in with a goal or two.

Charlie Patino

Boro do have plenty of exciting options in the middle of the park but they could do with a bit more depth in attacking midfield and Charlie Patino may be a player they look at.

The Arsenal youngster has struggled to breakthrough in North London and spent the last two seasons out on loan in the EFL, gaining some valuable minutes.

Patino spent last season on loan at Swansea City and showed glimmers of his bright talent, as he scored three goals and chipped in with four assists in 33 league games, without really pulling up trees.

The 20-year-old is clearly a bright talent and Boro should not pass up the opportunity to sign him if it comes.

It was reported earlier in the summer that Patino's future could lie away from Arsenal, with Charles Watts predicting that he will leave the Premier League side this summer.

His exclusion from the club's 26-man squad that has flown out to the USA for their pre-season tour will only fuel that fire and Boro could now look to capitalise.

The technical midfielder should suit Carrick's style of play and offer an alternative to Azaz.

Ali Al-Hamadi

If Carrick wants to add to his attacking options this summer, then he could lean on his contacts and look to take Ali Al-Hamadi on loan from Ipswich Town.

The Boro boss and Kieran McKenna do have a good relationship, having worked together for a few years at Manchester United.

Now that the pair are in different divisions, Carrick may be able to convince his old colleague to loan him Al-Hamadi for the upcoming campaign.

The forward appears to be down the pecking order at the club with them just signing Liam Delap and Ipswich might want to send him back to the Championship to get more minutes under his belt.

It has already been reported that Oxford United are interested in signing the Ipswich striker this summer and with it being claimed that he isn't part of McKenna's plans for the upcoming season, an exit could well be on the cards.

He would be a good addition for Boro – as a centre-forward he is capable of holding the ball up with his back to goal and can also run in behind to cause problems for the opposition defence while the 22-year-old can also play out wide and offer a goal threat from the flanks.
