Tyrhys Dolan could depart England this summer when his contract expires at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers playmaker Tyrhys Dolan looks likely to be heading out of the Ewood Park exit door this summer, with clubs outside of England now looking to sign the 23-year-old.

It was a tough end to the 2024-25 season for the Lancashire outfit, who missed out on the Championship play-offs by two points and one position on the final day of the season as they drew with Sheffield United, meaning that head coach Valerien Ismael has to go into next season with a renewed focus.

Rovers have had to sell some key players in recent times to fund club losses, with Sammie Szmodics and Adam Wharton being the most high-profile departures, but they could now lose one of their better players from this past season for very little at the end of June.

As per journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, there is now fresh interest in Dolan's services, with his contract expiry date looming ever closer.

And it is not just rival clubs of Blackburn in the Championship that are pursuing a move for the attacking midfielder, who scored seven goals in the second tier of English football in 2024-25, with unnamed overseas outfits now looking into a move for the ex-Preston North End man.

Because of his age, Dolan turning down a new contract and moving on from Blackburn would still mean that they are entitled to compensation, but due to FIFA's training compensation scheme, any move that would see him depart England would mean that Rovers get significantly less money.

A case of that was seen in 2019, when Charlton Athletic lost midfielder Joe Aribo to Rangers, who only had to pay £300,000 for his services - Blackburn could lose Dolan for similar if he decides to depart the country.

Tyrhys Dolan departing Blackburn Rovers feels inevitable - European move could be best for his career

Depending on what kind of clubs are keen on Dolan, his next move being abroad could be a good stepping stone for his career.

Dolan has showed a good level of form in the Championship and will get lucrative contract offers thanks to what he brings to the table, but there may be clubs in countries such as the Netherlands, Portugal and France who could offer similar and give him a bigger platform to potentially play in Europe.

The Premier League is probably the end goal for Dolan, but at the age of 23, he has time on his side to develop further and to become that player.
