8 G/A for £42m is too much – but Chelsea watching 19 year old’s development

Not long ago, Jesus Rodriguez was not a name we were familiar with. The Real Betis winger has made an explosive start to his career in La Liga, helping Manuel Pellegrini’s team find their form.

Since then, the links to Chelsea have intensified. The Blues are consistently being mentioned as one of the sides most interested in bringing the Betis academy product in.

CaughtOffside today say that the winger, who has 4 goals and 4 assists to his name, is a name very much on our radar, made even more attractive by the fact that he has a release clause in his current deal.

£42m is a lot of money for a player with just single season of first team action under their belt, but Rodriguez is attracting a lot of attention with his precocious performances. He is a right footer who plays on the left, making him potentially a dream Jadon Sancho replacement.

Chelsea could target further winger additions despite packed squad

With Mykhailo Mudryk looking set to receive a long ban for his doping and other options like Sancho disappointing and potentially not sticking around, there could be room for another young winger at the club even with the likes of Estevao Willian and Geovany Quenda coming in.

We think most fans would like to see Rodriguez put in another year of development in La Liga before we take a punt on him, but his electric speed and obvious talent make him a very interesting option to keep an eye on.

Of course, that relies on nobody else moving for him this summer – but that’s just the kind of risk we’re going to have to take. We are hardly going to be short of wingers unless we start selling them off wholesale.
