As Manchester City went down 4-2 to PSG the weaknesses in this current City squad were clear to see. Pep Guardiola’s side could do with signing a full-back and another midfielder. Now a new report suggests that a double raid on Juventus could be on the cards from Manchester City. Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz have once again been linked with a potential move to the world champions. In all honesty, the pair would immediately fill the biggest holes in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Fabrizio Romano has reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are interested in signing Douglas Luiz and Andrea Cambiaso. Furthermore, Romano reports that City have enquired about signing David Luiz on loan from Juventus. It is also reported by Romano that the Serie A giants would want a sizable loan fee or an obligation to buy from City to sanction a loan deal for David Luiz. It remains to be seen if that is an option that Manchester City are willing to explore at this stage.
Romano also reports that Manchester City and Juventus have held talks over Andrea Cambiaso. Furthermore, Romano reports that Juventus are anticipating City reaching out again to potentially sign Cambiaso. It is also included in Romano’s report that Juventus do not want to lose Cambiaso during the current transfer window. But there is the potential for Manchester City to try and sign the versatile full-back this month as per Romano’s report.
Watching Manchester City’s defeat to PSG you could see the hole in City’s midfield. It isn’t a knock on Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne or Ilkay Gundogan to say they lack the legs to keep up with their younger and more athletic opponents. PSG’s midfield was far to athletic for City’s midfield. A player like David Luiz would immediately fix City’s midfield. He’d add what they currently lack with his ability to actually get around the pitch. Luiz is also a very good player and would offer something going forward. Signing him on loan would be a temporary solution to City’s midfield issues.
Manchester City moving for Andrea Cambiaso would solve a massive issue in the full-back position. As we saw against PSG Matheus Nunes gives his all at right-back but he isn’t a right-back by trade. PSG targeted Nunes in the second half especially and Bradley Barcola gave Nunes a torrid time. At left-back Rico Lewis came on halftime during City’s 4-2 defeat. But he struggled up against Ousmane Dembele at the Parc des Princes. Signing Andrea Cambiaso would help Pep Guardiola’s squad tremendously. He can play at either left or right-back and would immediately be an upgrade on City’s current full-back options. Now we wait to see if Manchester City will return with an offer for the Italian international.
Manchester City signing David Luiz and Andrea Cambiaso would immediately improve City’s squad. Now it remains to be seen if they will move for the Juventus duo. But there is merit to the idea and you do get the impression that City will push hard to fill the holes in their squad during the remainder of the transfer window.
