Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale has clearly conveyed that the club hasn't accepted a Premier League relegation yet.
Post their recent loss against Manchester United, Southampton players and boss Ivan Juric looked quite distressed. And, why not they should be, given their relegation chances escalate with each matchday.
After 21 games, the Saints have accumulated just 6 points, the least in Premier League history. Sadly, if they continue this way, they might be en route to registering a haunting record this season.
Currently, the lowest point record is of Derby County from the 2007-08 Premier League season. While breaking records is considered progressive, Southampton wouldn't want to register this feat any day.
While these discussions gather heat among Premier League pundits, Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale believes otherwise.
As per the Daily Echo, Ramsdale still has hopes for the remaining Premier League campaign. When asked about fears for the worst season record, Ramsdale said: "It's not really crossed my mind. It's never been mentioned at the football club."
Further, the Saints keeper mentioned they still have time to turn things around. Continuing Ramsdale said: "We've got 17 games left and you never know what's going to happen in football."
This is not the first time Ramsdale has expressed his commitment to Southampton openly. Not much ago, the former Arsenal Number 1 felt like he let down boss Russell Martin when he had been injured.
But though the keeper's statement instills confidence, realistically their situation remains the same. For now, finishing above the lowest points(11) feels challenging for them, let alone escaping relegation.
Currently, what Southampton must do is to conclude the winter transfer window well.
Maxwel Cornet has left the Saints, putting an end to a calamitous loan spell. Thus, bringing a proven striker along with a quality defender should be enough to take this squad to the next level.
Coupled with these signings, Ivan Juric should instill confidence among the players to retain their momentum throughout the match.
