Adrien Rabiot on France’s World Cup chances: “Nothing is impossible” | OneFootball

France and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has refused to rule out Les Bleus’ chances of winning the FIFA World Cup.

This will be Rabiot’s first World Cup participation after he missed out on playing in the 2018 edition, as France won the tournament with the midfield of Ngolo Kante, Paul Pogba and Blaise Matuidi. With all three of them out of the frame, Rabiot has been selected and he is expected to feature regularly for them.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rabiot spoke about France’s hopes for the World Cup and how he feels while being able to play in his first ever World Cup for Les Bleus.

He said: “It’s a dream that didn’t come true four years ago in Russia, but now I’m enjoying it fully. I am even thinking back to the first most intense memories of when I was a child – in particular, the 2006 World Cup with the great return of Zidane, cheering at every match, a pity only for the final lost on penalties against Italy.”

Rabiot has impressed a lot for Juve this season, making him a very valid candidate to feature for Didier Deschamps’ side. The midfielder has added goals and assists from the midfield, while also helping the Old Lady when times weren’t always right and they are now third in the table.

When asked about France’s chances in the World Cup, he said: “Nothing is impossible, in life as in football. It will be complicated, because it’s already difficult when you’re not among the favourites. As reigning champions, everyone will want to beat us. It’s a great collective challenge, but we want to write history. In any case, it’s a unique experience for any player”.

France’s World Cup group includes Australia, Denmark and Tunisia and two of those teams were in their group in the 2018 World Cup as well. They open their campaign with a game against Australia on the 22nd of November.
