There had already been reports that Farioli was on the shortlist for Milan next season, especially when Fabio Paratici was in advanced talks to take over as director of sport at San Siro.

When that move collapsed, Paratici tried to focus Tottenham onto many of the same targets, including Farioli as a cheaper alternative to Olympique Marseille boss De Zerbi.
