Ajax will face another amateur team in the KNVB Cup having been drawn at home to Excelsior Maassluis in the round of 16 of the competition.
The draw was made on Saturday night, and worked out pretty favourably for the reigning holders.
After seeing off fourth-tier Barendrecht 4-0 with a weakened side in midweek, manager Erik ten Hag will likely get the opportunity to experiment again when Excelsior visit the Johan Cryuff Arena in the new year.
De Tricolores advanced after edging out Emmen on a 1-0 scoreline.
And the third-tier side have been rewarded for that victory with a clash against the Amsterdam giants. The game will take place on the weekend of 18/19/20 January.
The winner of the fixture will be guaranteed home advantage in the quarter-finals.
There will be three all-Eredivisie ties in the round, with Twente hosting AZ Alkmaar, Heerenveen taking on Go Ahead Eagles, and Groningen facing off against NEC.
