As reported by Sacha Tavolieri earlier this month, Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad had identified Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos (30) as an ambitious summer target. L’Équipe now understands that indirect talks have now begun to sign the Brazil international.
As always, Marquinhos, PSG’s most capped player of all-time, was an ever-present last season, helping the club towards a third successive Ligue 1 title and a UEFA Champions League campaign that ran all the way to the semi-finals. However, Tavolieri understands that Marquinhos is not only aware of interest from Al-Ittihad, soon to be managed by Laurent Blanc, but receptive to it.
A deal may be difficult, with RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins stating that PSG want to retain their captain this summer, however, L’Équipe understands that indirect contact bettween Al-ittihad and Maquinhos have re-started. It is therefore possible that the Braziliian leaves the Parc des Princes to move to the Gulf State as Saudi Arabia once again plan an offensive to bring some of European football’s most recognisable names into their league.
