Manchester United succumbed to an embarrassing 0-3 defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, a similar scoreline to what had transpired last season.
Ruben Amorim’s decision to sub off Manuel Ugarte to go all out in an attacking sense in the second half did not work out as it allowed the Cherries to score twice in the second half.
The hosts missed a glut of glorious opportunities with both Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho guilty of spurning gilt-edged chances.
For the second game running, the Argentine was brought on as a second-half substitute and on both occasions he has flattered to deceive.
Amorim had decided to drop the 20-year-old for the Manchester derby, something which did not please the academy graduate, and he is yet to regain a starting berth.
Garnacho has already been linked with a shock exit with Atletico Madrid and an unnamed club vying for his signature but so far, Amorim has not taken a concrete call on his future.
He had called out the youngster for his training and off-field habits and it seems the forward has once again caused a storm on social media.
As revealed by MEN, following United’s disappointing 2-3 loss at the hands of Nottingham Forest, the Argentina international ‘liked’ a social media post criticising his compatriot Lisandro Martinez for being outjumped by Nikola Milenkovic.
While it would be easy to term it as an honest mistake, Garnacho’s track record is not that rosy in this regard.
He had ‘accidentally’ liked a post in which Cristiano Ronaldo had criticised his former manager Erik ten Hag but eventually, all was forgiven.
Amorim has already shown how ruthless he can be and it will be interesting to see how the youngster is treated in the coming weeks and whether he can atone for his errors and win back his place in the starting lineup.
